Children praying in Colombia

Communities affected by Zika, chikungunya and dengue

19 May

In March, Compassion Colombia asked us to pray for the thousands of sponsored children affected by the Zika virus. In their latest update, our colleagues praise God that children have been recovering quickly and the spread of the virus has slowed.

“Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.” Jeremiah 29:12

Continue to pray for the children in Brazil who are sick with mosquito-borne illnesses. Compassion Brazil reports that 436 children have now been taken ill since February. Please pray for healing for those who are sick and for protection for those living in at-risk areas.

“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” Psalm 56:3

  • The viruses are continuing to spread across northern Colombia. Compassion Colombia now reports that 2,839 children and 108 Child Survival Programme beneficiaries have been affected. Pray for protection for children and their families. Ask God to be with Compassion Colombia as they fumigate areas and distribute mosquito nets and repellent.
  • Praise God that in Fortaleza, Brazil, health workers are effectively managing Zika, chikungunya and dengue. However, in the city of Arara a lack of blood testing equipment has hindered treatment. Please pray for God’s provision. Continue to pray for Compassion Brazil as they run educational campaigns and community meetings.
