The church cares for my children

"Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness." James 1:2-3

“I love going to the project. I have a lot of friends there. At the project I know that the teacher really cares about us. It’s not like in school. At school there are a lot of children and the teacher cannot give time to us all. But at the project, I feel special.”

Eight-year-old Krishanthini lives in a small, half mud, half wooden house in Sri Lanka. Her house consists of a small kitchen and one room. The room is used for drying clothes, studying, sleeping, eating and entertaining guests. The roof is very low and at certain places you need to be as small as Krishanthini to avoid hitting your head.

Krishanthini lives with her mum, dad and two siblings. Her family built the house with their bare hands, but heavy rains have damaged the mud walls meaning the house slants to one side and water seeps through the walls. Despite this, Krishanthini and her parents look at the positives.

“I am thankful that we have a house,” explains her mum. “We have a place to live, a lot of people don’t. We don’t have the money to build this house up right now, but we have a lot of things to be thankful about. Krishanthini gets a meal at the [Compassion] project. I am really thankful for that. My husband and I cannot afford to give her a lot of things, but the project has really blessed her. She comes and shares all that she learns and does in the project. She teaches her brother as well. I know that she is taken care of. The church cares for my children.”

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we pray that you will help us maintain a joyful heart, even when life is tough and we face challenges.
