On this International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, pray for women around the world who are subject to violence. Pray for women who suffer the atrocities of rape or domestic abuse. Pray for healing and justice for victims.
In many countries, long standing traditions and cultures that hold women in low esteem make it even harder to speak out against sexual abuse.
For example, in Kenya, nearly 1 in 3 girls experience sexual violence - but the crime is rarely reported due to social stigma.
Corruption and poor policing mean that women have little if any confidence they will be taken seriously, if listened to at all. Women and children feel helpless, they don’t know who will fight for them.
Loving Father, we pray for women living in the shadow of violence around the world. Let them know your love and their immense value in your sight. Use your people to set the oppressed free and loose the chains of injustice.
"Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked." Psalm 82:3-4
