Earthquake in Nicaragua

Give thanks that the situation in Momotombo has largely stabilised following the two earthquakes which struck in September.
Rinconato Infantil Child Development Centre has resumed project activities today. Although their facilities have been destroyed, several church members have kindly volunteered their homes as meeting rooms.
Please pray for provision for Ungiods del Rey Child Development Centre. This project will remain temporarily closed for a couple of weeks while serious damage to classrooms is repaired.
Our church partners and project staff are providing help and support to children and families who have been affected. They’ve been distributing emergency food, mattresses and mosquito nets.

Yesterday morning, a 5.4 magnitude aftershock occurred in Nicaragua, 14 days after the 5.9 magnitude earthquake that struck on September 14. The epicentre was again in Momotombo, but tremors were felt throughout the country. The government suspended school classes yesterday, and our church partners have followed their lead, halting Compassion project activities.
Our project Iglesia Estrella de Belen is temporarily closed. The perimetre wall is unstable and the walls of the office, kitchen and classrooms were destroyed. The project director and secretary were injured but, praise God, they received assistance from paramedics and are now in stable condition.
