Give thanks for vaccinations in Haiti
Praise God that babies and toddlers in our Child Survival Programme are receiving life-saving vaccinations!
Located in La Colline, Haiti, one of our projects has just finished a vaccination programme for 50 children.
As project director Don Evens Gressier explains, parents have needed education and encouragement as “many regard childhood diseases as demonic attacks. They admit their sick children to a voodoo temple for treatment instead of a hospital.”
After running educational sessions for parents, the project staff members have ensured every child has received the five basic vaccines called “pentavalent,” offered by the Health Ministry. This package protects children against diphtheria, pertussis, Hepatitis B, HIB (haemophilis influenza), and tetanus. In addition, the project has provided meningitis, pneumonia, and typhoid vaccinations.

Don gives thanks to God for protecting the children in his care. He rejoices that attitudes are changing in the community.
“Sometimes children get sick because they do not have vaccines administered. So, because of the education we have provided them, not only they are motivated to participate in vaccination sessions, but they also bring their children to the project each time they become sick before making another decision.”
Father, today we pray for our field staff like Don who are working alongside vulnerable children and families. Give them your wisdom and sensitivity as they support and encourage parents.
