What Jesus means to me

"Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God." John 1:12

14-year-old Edwina lives in the community of Madina, near the capital of Ghana, Accra. Edwina joined the Compassion project when she was 4-years-old. She loves reading her Bible which she received from the project. For Edwina, Easter means a new hope because Jesus died so that she can be called a child of God again.

“[Easter] is a week set aside for Christians to remember and celebrate the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. For me, the day reminds me of what Jesus did for me. I am happy because I have the hope of going to heaven if I believe in Jesus and look up to him for help. Jesus means so much to me. I love him; he humbled himself and came down, was born in a manger and even though he was sinless, He died on the cross, like a criminal, just to save me. He is my saviour who died for me to make my way good with God,” explains Edwina.

Edwina celebrates Easter with her family at the church connected to her Compassion project. “In my church Easter is all about prayer, mourning, rejoicing and thanksgiving. On Good Friday, the day Jesus was crucified, we go to church in our mourning clothes (black or dark). On Sunday we dress in white clothes and go to church rejoicing and praising God.”

Edwina is keen for those around her to also know about Jesus, “I will tell them that if they want to enjoy eternal life, it is only one way and that is through Jesus Christ, our Lord.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, we pray today for Compassion-assisted children. As they celebrate Easter in their projects may they know they’re a child of God and precious in your sight. Amen.
