Compassion UK CEO Ian Hamilton announces decision to focus on new role

14 October 2015

Ian Hamilton, CEO of Christian Child Development charity, Compassion UK, has today announced that he will be stepping down from his role in June 2016.

Ian has led Compassion UK for 16 years since its start-up in 2000. His decision comes at a time when the organisation is nearing the milestone of seeing 100,000 children sponsored through the UK church.

Ian said, “Compassion UK became my life’s work. I’m immensely proud to have led the team as they changed and continue to change so many lives. It has not been easy to come to this decision, but I’m excited by the challenge that lies between now and retirement.”

He explained, “I will not be leaving Compassion; instead I will be focusing on the second role I have, working as Vice President for Compassion International EMEA.”

This role coordinates Compassion’s fundraising partner activities in Europe where they have seven of their global 12 funding countries, as well as launching fundraising activities in the African Field countries.

Graham Williams, Chairman of the Board of Trustees praised Ian’s work saying, “Ian is a great leader. He has been with Compassion UK since its inception and has always steered the ship securely. He has inspired the team here to believe that together they can work to battle the injustice of poverty, and has seen nearly a hundred thousand children’s lives changed forever as a result. His contribution has been immense.”

The Board of Trustees will begin to look for a new CEO early in 2016.
