It’s not even October, but with less than 100 days to go until Christmas, Compassion project staff are hard at work, planning over 7,000 parties and buying nearly two million gifts. But while that may seem like a lot of presents, the gifts are lovingly handpicked by project staff to meet the needs of each individual child.
Christmas may not be on your radar just yet, but here are ten of our favourite Christmas quotes from children in Compassion projects around the world:
1. Isaac from Peru
“We are going on a party and we have gifts, sweets, toys and Jesus!”
2. Juan from Indonesia
“If I was a wise man visiting Jesus, I would give him a bag so he had something to put all his other gifts in.”
3. Gabriel, Ecuador
“I liked the gifts at this party and they painted my face too. They gave me the face of a dog. I like dogs.”
4. Alexandra, Peru
“When I found my shoes and my dress [in my gift], I felt like God heard my prayers.”
5. Noventon, Indonesia
“Last Christmas, I was given clothes. The shirt is the one I'm wearing now. It's the only shirt I own. At home we celebrate Christmas by gathering together and sharing stories. The old people in my family give advice.”
6. Christel from Haiti
“What I most like about Christmas at the project is the quality time I spend with my homies during the Christmas celebration.”
7. Augustin, Togo
“I enjoyed Christmas, I received toys and games. I had fun with my project mates. I was so happy and I wish I would have [more] nice days like this."
8. Evelin, Peru
“I like Christmas because it’s a happy time and Jesus was born.”
9. Yoan from Colombia
"My favourite Christmas gift ever was a toy car. Baby Jesus gave it to me."
10. Antonia from El Salvador
“We can truly be happy at Christmas, no matter what may be happening in our daily lives, we know that we are God’s children and today our homes are small and cold, but some day Heaven will be our home.”
This December, we want to bless every Compassion-supported child with a gift, a delicious meal and time with their friends and family at a Christmas party. But we’d also love each child to hear about the birth of a Saviour who brings hope and light into the darkest of places – a Saviour who knows every child by name and loves them.
Will you join us this Christmas and bless a child in poverty by donating to our Christmas Appeal?
