Today thousands of people will fill shops and browse online in search of the perfect gift. Increasingly known as super or panic Saturday, retailers are eagerly awaiting record sales today, the last Saturday before Christmas.
With this frenzy of Christmas activity happening around us, it’s easy to get swept up. Perhaps you’re already running through your to do list and wondering how you’ll be ready in time.
Our challenge today is to put it all aside and rest. The Bible is full of wonderful scriptures reminding us of the importance of rest. Here are our three favourite verses:
1) “My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.” Psalm 62:1-2
2) “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Exodus 33:14
3) “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:28
We hope they encourage you as much as they have encouraged us.
Prayer: Heavenly father, thank you for your gift of rest. Today, we pray that in the midst of our busyness we can come into your presence and rest. Amen.
